J1 (38m/new deep/winged) Sub

Site layout:
-Platform around conning tower looks like wings
-Sits almost upright, slight list to Port

Points of interest:
-Only sub to hit 2 ships with the same salvo
-Only sub to depth charge another sub and survive
-Found by accident when a dive boat had its echo sounder on the wrong scale whilst looking for the 27m sub
-Stern: trim tabs, stabilising fins and propeller shaft are clearly visible
-Conning tower: platform
-Bow: torpedo tubes visible, swim through under hull
-Different bridge construction to the other subs
-Sea tulips, soft corals and zoanthids

Bottom composition: fine sand
Water movement/currents: Outside heads, no current, can get choppy & quite strong surge
Hazards: *silting due to fine sand, *narcosis, *entrapment - this sub is not as open as the others, do not penetrate the wreck if you are not wreck or cave rated, take a reel, if surge is present remain on the outside
